Promethea seems to be quite the buzz these days--could someone tell me a little bit about it? Now that the semester's over, I'll finally have more time to read and I'm looking for some new stuff.

I've been finding myself turning more and more towards manga. (Thank God for online translations because translating is a real pain.)
And these include.
Here is Greenwood
Cowboy Bebop
Trigun
Akazukin ChaCha
Inu Yasha
As well as the American comic

Promethea is the name of a little girl, the daughter of a Hermetic Mage and Priest. He was murdered by christians, so he sent his daughter away to his gods. She was taken to the land of Magic. Promethea became a goddess of sorts, the spirit of humnan creativity, the spirit of the story.
Many times thru history, some creative person when writing about her legend would manifest her powers in the real world, and fight as champion of the specific manifestors ideals about creativity, stories, and magic.
Flash forward to the end of the 20th century.
Sophie Bangs is a college student, doing a paper on the myth of Promethea-well, of course, she's the next in line to become Promethea, and that is where our story begins.
I hope my piss-poor explanation doesn't turn you away, because Promethea is truely one of the great reads today. The issues dealing with the relationships between sex and magic was incredible(and up for an Eisner!) and the issue about the Tarot as a model of the Universe was simply genius.(Note-I am an avowed athiest, and I don't believe in any of that stuff. But I love this book, and I did beleive it while I read it-it's THAT good!)
I think anyone who read sandman will love Promethea. But beware-Alan Moore has the power to make you say 'Morpheus who?' with this one. He is a true genius in the medium.
Darth
PS-Interestingly, I have read in an interview that Alan Moore is a pagan, and believes to have communed with Hermes, the God of Magic. Kinda makes this book a very spiritual thing for him, which is evident in the care he uses to craft each story.

I'm currently cutting back even more of what I read because I've noticed most of what I read I'm not enjoying really. So I'm cutting what I read to...
Ultimate Spider-man
Avengers
JSA
Powers
Strangers in Paradise
The Waiting Place
Steampunk (I'll buy anything Bachalo)
And I'm giving Green Arrow 3 more issues, and trying Brotherhood for a couple of months before I decide to keep those on the list or not. I'm thinking of quiting Ultimate Spider-man as well maybe last issues have been lack luster.

Ohhh the scene with Niniri was both funny and extremely creepy ("Look, look! It's so cute, it's so happy to see you...") I always knew there was something Not Right about her... no one can be that nice and ignor Sere.
email me please if you have time and want to chat! [email protected]
